north kessock ticket office projectNorth Kessock Pier Building.

The pier building was once the hub of village life where foot passengers met as they waited for the ferry to take them on the short crossing to South Kessock in Inverness. Highland Council have transferred ownership of the building to The North Kessock Ticket Office Project for community use.

We hope it will become the village hub again where locals and visitors can meet in this uniquely beautiful location.

Our aim:

"To purchase, repair, upgrade, manage and maintain the former ferry ticket office, waiting room and toilets at North Kessock Pier as a heritable community-run amenity. This will provide a range of facilities which will be available to the wider community. It will improve the visual appearance of an important focal point of the village of North Kessock and thus improve the lives of people in the village.”

The 'Our Progress' menu link provides a record of the past few years.

Our vision for the future:

The North Kessock Ticket Office Project set up as an SCIO registered charity in October 2014. Since then a lot of hard work has gone into gaining community support and obtaining funding thanks to our Project Manager Alan Jones.

The refurbishment of the building started with the demolition of the windbreak wall in November 2017 and In March 2018 the Builders started knocking down internal walls to make the interior open-plan for best use of the space.

The public toilets will re-open which was one of the key points that locals had asked for in the community survey. There will be a Ladies/disabled and a Gents toilet sited at one end of the building and a new toilet for the use of people attending meetings in the inside of the building.

The space created in the inside of the building will be put to good use. The old Ticket Office area will be used by the local History Society to show artefacts etc. from the days of the ferry and will put on different exhibitions there. Local volunteers will be on hand to speak to visitors. The old Ticket Office window will be retained and new windows to let in more light and to show the wonderful views will be installed. Large sliding glass doors at the entrance to the old waiting room will enable light into the main area and show a panoramic view of the Firth and the Kessock bridge.

The main room will be available to be hired out as a meeting space for local groups and classes and for exhibitions. Now that the Project is underway it is very exciting that our vision is becoming a reality after all this time.

Chairwoman NKTOP
